SYNOPSIS
The anonymous Missoula, Montana artist known only as Wholesome Vandalism walks us through his process of making non-conforming street art for the common man.
A documentary micro-short film
RELEASED: 2024
When mysterious sculptures began popping up around Missoula, MT, Chris Shields knew he had to investigate further. He was surprised to find out that the artist behind these sculptures was actually a close friend of his, and the two decided to collaborate on this film.
“Glorified Trash” is a micro-documentary short following the process of creating the artist’s self-proclaimed “wholesome vandalism.” These art fixtures are anything from sculptures to paintings, repurposed from used and/or abandoned goods, and turned into something beautiful. The artist behind them installs them all over the city in places “the common man” will see and enjoy them.
The film was made in a few chunks of a couple hours over the course of three days. Shields did everything in the film himself and used his medium as a platform to highlight someone else’s medium–an avenue of filmmaking Shields would grow quite fond of and continue to work in for the coming years.
